This is a self supported event

Leaving town, there will be a neutral zone until we reach the main road. Once out on the main road, it's 20km to Tangiwai and the first caution of the event - a rail crossing - to keep everyone on their toes and eyes on the road. At the 30km mark we take a left hand turn at Waiouru and begin one of the highlights of the ride - the climb up onto the Central Plateau and spectacular ride along the Desert Road.

After 52km along the Desert Road (just past the half way mark) the course turns left onto State Highway 46. This links onto State Highway 47 which takes you past the Wakapapa Skifield and Grand Chateau turn off and on to National Park.

Reaching National Park, it's a left hand turn onto State Highway 4, through the settlements of Waikune, Erua and under the railway viaduct before reaching Pokaka, Horopito and enjoying some spectacular views of Mount Ruapehu to the left.

At Tohunga Junction it's a left hand turn onto State Highway 49 and a final 10km of flat, fast roads to the finish in Ohakune.

160km of pure pleasure!
